Dr. L. H. Aasheim MD, CCFP

Dr. Lise Aasheim attended the University of Toronto where she received her medical degree in 1994, and completed the Family Practice program in 1996.

Lise obtained a Board Certificate allowing her to work in either the United States or Canada managing a family practice.

Lise, her husband Kevin, along with their 3 children moved from Minnesota, USA in the fall of 2008 to the Peterborough area. Lise became a part of the Peterborough Clinic’s family practice team shortly thereafter.

Lise and her husband dedicate a lot of their time to different sports, supporting their 3 children in many of Peterborough’s favorite teams.

Dr. R. E. Ahee MD, CCFP

Dr. Rick Ahee joined the Clinic in 1989 after practicing for five years in Northern Ontario. Rick obtained his medical degree from Queens University in 1982 and completed the Family Practice residency program at McMaster University in 1984.

Besides being afflicated with the Peterborough Clinic, Rick is a member of the Canadian College of Family Physicians, as well as the Ontario Medical Association.

Rick and his wife Julie have 4 grown children, and are proud grandparents to three grandchildren. Rick and Julie have been enjoying their new found freedom, traveling more, finding new hobbies, and spending time with their grandchildren.

Dr. J. A. Armstrong MD, CCFP, FCFP

Dr. Judith Armstrong graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1981, completing the Family Practice residency program at Ottawa Civic Hospital in 1983. Judith spent the following year in New Zealand on a locum tenens assignment and upon her return joined the Clinic in 1986.  She became a fellow of the College of Family Physicians in 2004.  In February 2009, Dr. Armstrong was elected Chairperson for The Peterborough Clinic.

Judith and her husband Rick, also a family physician at the Clinic, have three grown children and are proud grandparents to an adorable granddaughter.  Judith and family enjoy music, travel, golf, skiing, hockey, soccer, baseball and movies.

Judith has been involved with various organizations such as St. Alphonsus Children’s Liturgy, St. Peter’s School Council, French Immersion Committee PVNCC District School Board,  the Peterborough Girls Hockey Association as a Trainer and previously a board member of the Kawartha Youth Orchestra Board.  She and Rick were Land-parent for the ‘Junior A’ Peterborough Pete’s hockey players for 5 years.  Presently Judith is on the Advisory Board for the Peterborough Pregnancy Crisis Centre, and a Lector at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic church.

Dr. R. F. Binette MD, CCFP, FCFP

Dr. Rick Binette is originally from Arvida, Quebec. Rick attended the University of Ottawa where he obtained his medical degree in 1981, and completed the Family Practice residency program in 1983. In 1984, Dr. Binette settled in the Peterborough area opening an active family practice within the Clinic.

Rick professional affiliations are Fellow of the Canadian College of Family Physicians, and the Ontario Medical Association.

He is a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, and the current Chairman for the Peterborough Quacks Hockey Club.

Rick and his wife Judith, also a family physician at the Clinic, have three grown children, and a daughter-in-law whom they welcomed into the family July 2008.

The family enjoys music, travel, skiing and going to the movies. They are members of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Rick himself enjoys hockey, golf, tennis, running, reading and writing. The Binette family had also opened their home for the Billet (land-parent) family program for the ‘Junior A’ Peterborough Petes for 5 years.

Dr. C. E. Brown MD, CCFP

Dr. Carolyn Brown joined the Clinic in 2008. Carolyn attended the University of Toronto where she received her medical degree in 1977. From there, Dr. Brown moved to Calgary Alberta where she completed the Family Practice residency program in 1979.

Carolyn and her husband Dr. John Ashbourne worked in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for 12 years prior to joining the Clinic. During her time in Saudi, Carolyn volunteered as a leader for the Girl Scouts from 1997 – 2006. She also became a coordinator for an all girls softball team, as well organized talks for Women’s Groups discussing psychological topics.

Carolyn and John have two grown daughters. Dr. Brown enjoys travel, camping, music and reading.

Dr. B. C. Cameron MD, CCFP

Dr. Bruce Cameron joined the Clinic in 1990. Bruce received his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1980 and completed the Family Practice residency program, also at the University of Toronto, in 1982. Bruce worked in Toronto prior to relocating to Peterborough. Bruce and his wife Brenda have three children.

Dr. R. P. de Luna MD, CCFP, FCFP

Dr. Rodrigo de Luna joined the Clinic in 2006. Rod attended the Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1977, and the Doctor of Medicine certificate in 1981. From 1983 – 1987, Rod worked as a family physician in his home country. In 1988, Rod, his wife Helen, along with their 3 children moved to Newfoundland Canada. In the years to follow, Dr. de Luna not only managed a family practice, but he continued to upgrade his profession at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. In 1996, Rod and his family moved again; this time to Timmins Ontario. He became an active member of the Timmins and District Hospital, as well a member of the Timmins Family Practice Associates, where he ran a family practice for 10 years.

Rod is affiliated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, College of Family Physicians of Canada, Ontario Medical Association, Peterborough County Medical Society, and the Canadian Medical Protective Association.

Dr. de Luna enjoys time in and around the pool, fishing, downhill skiing, golfing, hunting, and spending time with his grandson.

Dr. M. J. Dickie MD, CCFP

Dr. Margaret (Peggy) Dickie joined the Clinic in 1984. Peggy obtained her medical degree at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario, completing the Family Practice residency program in 1984. Peggy has an active family practice. She is a member of the Canadian College of Family Physicians and the Ontario Medical Association.

Peggy enjoys scuba diving (down south), skiing, canoeing, golfing and spending time in her garden.

Dr. C-W. Hsu MD, CCFP, FCFP

Dr. Chia-Wen Hsu was born in Taiwan and grew up in St. John’s, Newfoundland.  Chia-Wen received her B. MedSc in 1988, and received her Medical Degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1990. Chia-Wen completed her Family Practice Residency at the University of British Columbia in 1992. In 2004 Chia-Wen received her Fellowship for the College of Family Physicians.

Chia-Wen practiced in Terrace, British Columbia for 12 years. In 2004 she moved to Peterborough to work as a hospitalist for the PRHC.  Chia-Wen joined the Peterborough Clinic in 2006 where she returned to Family Practice.

In addition to the Peterborough Clinic, Chia-Wen’s professional affiliations include British Columbia Medical Association, Ontario Medical Association, and the College of Family Physicians.

Chia-Wen and her husband Simon have one son.  They enjoy many activities together as a family: canoeing, kayaking, cycling during the summer, cross country and downhill skiing in the winter.

Dr. D. A. Newport MD, CCFP

Dr. David Newport joined the Clinic in 1997 after completing his medical training and the Family Practice residency program at the University of Ottawa.

David is a member of the Ontario Medical Association.

David and his wife Carla are very busy parents of three young children. The family enjoys keeping active outdoors. David also takes pride in participating in various activities at his children’s school.

Dr. A. J. Romanowski MD, CCFP

Dr. Andrew Romanowski joined the Clinic in 2010.  Andrew completed his pre-medical education at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, his medical degree at Jagiellonian University School of Medicine in Krakow, Poland in 2008 and his family practice residency from the University of Manitoba in 2010.

Dr. Romanowski has set up a part-time family practice at the Clinic.  He spends the other half of his practice time working in the Emergency department at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

Andrew is settling into Peterborough, is active in one of the local fitness clubs and enjoys driving his Audi.

Dr. D. B. Stoker MD, CCFP

Dr. Brent Stoker joined the Clinic in 1992. A self-proclaimed army brat, Brent lived in various places throughout Canada. Dr. Stoker moved to Ottawa to earn his medical degree in 1981. He then went on to complete the Family Practice residency program at Queen’s University in 1983. Brent practiced in Thunder Bay prior to coming to Peterborough.

Brent and his wife Karen, who teaches, have two grown sons. When he isn’t working, Brent enjoys triathlons.

Dr. D. S. Thompson MD, CLB, DA

Dr. Donald Thompson joined the Clinic in 1982. Born and raised in England, Don received his medical degree from Birmingham University, England in 1971. He then went on to complete his postgraduate training in Anaesthetics. Don is an executive member of the Ontario Coroners Association, has been a Coroner for Peterborough County since 1984 and was appointed an Inquest Coroner in 1996.

Don and his wife Margaret have three grown children. A rugby player and enthusiast, Don is on the executive of the Peterborough Rugby Club, coach to the Peterborough Junior Rugby Rep team and team doctor for the Ontario Provincial Rugby Team and Team Canada Rugby. Don and the family also enjoy spending time skiing, boating and gardening.

Dr. R. J. Whatley MD, CCFPDr. R. J. Whatley

Dr. Rick Whatley joined the Clinic in 1981 after completing the Family Practice residency program at the University of Ottawa.  Rick completed his medical undergraduate work at the University of Toronto, and received his BSc from Trent University, here in Peterborough.

As an innovation junkie, Rick is never at a loss for challenging the status quo.  He has been instrumental in championing the successful implementation of our EMR, and cajoled the Family Practice Department of the Clinic to adopt capitation funding and become a FHN, both firsts in the Peterborough area.  He currently holds an executive and board position with the Primary Health Care Services, Peterborough, which oversees the network of Family Health Teams in the county.

Rick has professional affiliations with the CMA, OMA, Canadian College of Family Practice, and CPSO.

Rick and his wife Martha have four children, and live in Lakefield, north of Peterborough.  His addiction to cycling is regularly “fixed” by the one-hour commute between home and work.

Dr. G. Zaniewski MD, CCFP

Dr. Gregory Zaniewski joined the Clinic in 2010.  Greg is originally from Peterborough and obtained his undergraduate degree from Trent University.  He received his medical degree from Jagiellonian University Medical School in Krakow Poland in 2008 and his family practice residency training from the University of Manitoba in 2010.  Dr. Zaniewski was an epidemiologist with Health Canada for two years prior to entering medical school.

Dr. Zaniewski and his wife Alicia have a young son and have settled in the Peterborough area.
